[Tips] The Window key: A handy shortcut for your PC tasks

Do you know what the Window key is? It's the key on your keyboard that has the Windows logo on it. You can use it to perform various tasks on your PC faster and easier. In this article, we'll show you some of the benefits and tips of using the Window key.

The Window key can help you:

•  Save time and clicks. Instead of using your mouse to navigate through menus and icons, you can use the Window key to access them directly. For example, you can press Window + E to open File Explorer, Window + I to open Settings, or Window + R to open Run.

•  Switch between apps and windows. Instead of clicking on the taskbar or using Alt + Tab, you can use the Window key to switch between your open apps and windows. For example, you can press Window + Tab to open Task View, Window + [Number] to open an app pinned to the taskbar, or Window + Arrow keys to snap windows to different sides of the screen.

•  Access more features and functions. The Window key can also help you access some features and functions that may not be easy to find or use with the mouse. For example, you can press Window + A to open Action Center, Window + L to lock your PC, or Window + G to open Game Bar.

The Window key can be used with different versions of Windows, such as Windows 11, Windows 10, Windows 8.1 and Windows 7. However, some shortcuts may vary depending on the version of Windows you are using. For example, Window + A to open Action Center is only available in Windows 10 and Windows 11, Window + C to open Cortana is only available in Windows 10.

The Window key can also be used with different apps, such as Microsoft Edge, Calculator, Game Bar, Groove, Maps, Movies & TV, Paint, Paint 3D, Photos and Voice Recorder. Each app has its own shortcuts to perform specific functions. For example, Ctrl + T to open a new tab in Microsoft Edge, Ctrl + E to enter a calculation in Calculator, or Window + G to open Game Bar
